With the 2017 US Open over, the 2018 event is already being talked about. When will it take place?

The 2017 US Open provided plenty of fanfare over the past four days. It started with all three top players in the world — Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day — miss the cut. So the field would be left wide open for the final two days, leaving golfers like Brian Harman, Ricky Fowler, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas in the running to win.

Usually, the US Open is full of high scores, with few being below an even score. However, most of the golfers that made the cut were at -1 and below. It was due to rain that softened up the course, making it easier to keep the ball in the position that the golfers aimed for.

This isn’t always the case with US Open events, though, and could change for the 2018 competition. It will take place at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, NY. It will take place from Thursday, June 14 to Sunday, June 17.

The last time this course was used for the US Open was in 2004. Retief Goosen won the event, finishing at -4, with Phil Mickelson in second place.

Prior to that, 1995 was the last time Shinnecock Hills hosted the US Open. This saw Corey Pavin win, finishing at even.

The 2018 event should bring out the best golfers in the world again. It will be an opportunity at redemption for Johnson, McIlroy and Day, as well as a chance for other players to rise to the occasion and win one of the top four events of the year.
