With the 2017 US Open Championship at Erin Hills in the books, where will the 2018 event take place?

The USGA has done a great job of taking the US Open all over the country for over a century. They also have done a great job of developing a tradition with the finest courses across the country for the yearly major tournament. In 2017, Erin Hills, Wisconsin hosted its first US Open Championship.

In 2018, the event is set to return to a familiar territory. Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York will host the event for the fifth time. It hasn’t been there since 2004, so it will be the perfect time to return to the course.

It will also be a chance for redemption for many of the golfers there. In this year’s event Dustin Johnson and several other of the game’s best missed the cut or had to withdraw from the event altogether.

2018 is going to offer plenty of opportunities for someone to step up and take the major. Phil Mickelson famously finished second at the event the last time that it was held in Southampton in 2004.

After not playing in this year’s event, returning to a course where he almost won the major would be a great place for him to pick it up. Of course, it will be interesting to see if a year from now if Tiger Woods is back on the course. Back issues have kept him out and his health status in a year from now will certainly be interesting.
