Diana Taurasi becomes WNBA all-time leading scorer (Video)

Diana Taurasi did a little more to cement her legacy in the sport of basketball on Sunday, becoming the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer.

When it comes to the sport of women’s basketball and you’re talking about legends of the game, chances are a good majority will mention the name Diana Taurasi. Taurasi is one of the greatest players not just of this generation, but all time, and on Sunday she cemented her legacy even further.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Taurasi was on the verge of history as the Phoenix Mercury star was set to become the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history. In the second quarter of this contest, she indeed did make history with this basket.


We really didn’t need further proof of the greatness that is Diana Taurasi on a basketball court, but what an amazing moment nonetheless. Anytime that you can see history being made by one of the greats is a moment that, as a sports fan, you will remember forever.

The journey to this record started in 2004 when Taurasi joined the league and the Mercury following a stellar career at UConn under legendary head coach Geno Auriemma. It was during her college days where you could see that she was going to be something special, and she’s validated that throughout her entire WNBA career.

Coming into Sunday’s historical game, Taurasi was averaging 18.6 points per game through eight games of the young WNBA season.

So, congratulations are certainly in order for Taurasi on this amazing accomplishment, and with some career still left in her, it’ll be interesting to see what the final tally actually is. And good luck to the woman who ultimately tries to catch it.
