AC Milan fans had no problem letting Gianluigi Donnarumma know how they feel during Italy’s match against Denmark in the Under-21 Championship.

Unless you’re a hardcore soccer fan, you’re not going to be watching the UEFA Under-21 Championship. However, there is one player in the tournament who is already an international icon.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been a superstar for club and country. He made his Italy debut at the age of 17, and was AC Milan’s starter a year before that. As a product of Milan’s academy, many believed he would be the successor to Gianluigi Buffon, and would help bring Milan back to their glory days.

But in stunning news, he let Milan know that he wouldn’t re-sign with them, and that a departure was imminent. The fans felt betrayed, and made sure to let their feelings known the next time they saw him. Donnarumma may have thought he’d be safe by playing the Under-21 Championship in Poland, but Italy fans let him have it during a corner kick when they threw money at him:

To make matters worse, they also unveiled a banner saying “Dollarumma”:

Milan fans have the right to feel betrayed by Donnarumma’s decision. He should’ve known that soccer fans don’t take kindly to traitors, as evidenced by Barcelona fans throwing a pig’s head at Luis Figo in his first game back in a Real Madrid shirt.

Between Donnarumma’s decision and Cristiano Ronaldo surprisingly wanting to leave Real Madrid, there’s been no shortage of surprises this offseason. And there’s still two weeks before the transfer window officially opens! It’s looking more and more like Ronaldo will return to Manchester United, and if Donnarumma joins him there, they’ll start making their own superteam.

Even though Donnarumma hasn’t signed anywhere yet, his actions are already irredeemable. The only way he can make it up to Milan fans at this point is if he guides Italy to a World Cup, but since Buffon will still play in 2018, he has to wait at least five years to do that.
