Brooks Koepka wins the US Open with a record tying finish, with six birdies and a remarkable back nine holes finish to clinch his first major title. Congratulations poured in for the first-time major winner.

The win that no one saw coming ended with the major talent Brooks Koepka steadying his nerves and pulling in the US Open victory with an efficient back nine performance. He most likely held the win at -14, but displayed his strong mind by increasingly closing the gap as he got closer to the finish line, with a final score of -16.

His win at the 117th U.S. Open at Erin Hills equals Rory McIlroy’s record at the 2011 Congressional for the lowest score. He was the ultimate “cool hand” as he skillfully created a margin without showing any nerve in the back half of the final round, posting a 67 for the day.

“That’s about the best I’ve ever played,” he said afterwards. “I was striking it unbelievably, my speed control [on the greens] was great, and I was fighting the ball.”

It was the win that no one saw coming.

“What I’ve done this week is amazing,” said Koepka about his surprise win.

Koepka also noted that the major title was especially sweet on Father’s Day since he didn’t get anything for his dad. “This will make up for the card that I didn’t get him,” he joked.

The 27-year-old played a solid game throughout and is only his second PGA Tour title, including the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2015.

Several of his peers and the world of golf took to twitter to celebrate his first major win.
