Jawun Evans

Point Guard, Oklahoma State

It seems like every season the Spurs find their way to some high-value prospect sliding down draft boards. Evans is projected in the mid-teens to high-20s on many draft boards but if he’s there at the end of the first round, he’s too good for the Spurs to pass up.

Point guard is something of a question mark for the Spurs. Tony Parker may not return until January and it remains to be seen what he has left in the tank. Dejounte Murray was a revelation as a rookie but he’s still young and may not be ready to take over full time. Patty Mills has been the perfect backup, but he’s a free agent and could be on his way out.

Evans is small compared to some of the other top point guard prospects but he’s one of the most polished scorers and distributors out of the pick-and-roll in this draft. There are questions about his jump shooting and defense buy he can absolutely score and run an offense. That polish means he could likely contribute immediately to the Spurs as they push for another run to the Western Conference Finals.
