The Oakland Raiders have finally found the franchise quarterback they need, but now it is time to pay the man.

Derek Carr is everything that the Raiders were hoping he would be, and then some. The quarterback out of Fresno State has become one of the elite quarterbacks in the league in only three seasons. He took the helm, and alongside Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, has turned around one of the saddest franchises of the last two decades.

Carr and Co. finally returned the Raiders to the playoffs after 15 long years of misery. Unfortunately, Carr suffered a broken leg that ended his season on Christmas Eve, leading to the Raiders being eliminated by the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round. Because of how much he has improved, and how much he means to the franchise, the Raiders are ready to pay him.

Reports are that he and the Raiders are closing in on a $25 million extension. Talks have been on the table and Carr has mentioned he wants it out of the way before training camp. At $25 million per year, Carr would have the highest annual salary in the league.

Per Adam Schefter, the deal could be announced as early as the end of this week. This would fit the timeline Carr wanted, which was prior to camp.

Regardless of the semantics that are likely still being discussed, a deal is on the way. Carr is the leader the Raiders so desperately needed, and now he is being rewarded.
