Many were upset with the finish to the first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and you can now add Jerry Lawler to that crowd.

The first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in WWE has been a hot topic ever since it happened on Sunday night, but mainly because of how upset everyone was with the finish. To add more fuel to the fire, Jerry Lawler gave his candid thoughts on the match.

Fans were upset with James Ellsworth interrupting the match, pushing Becky Lynch off of a ladder, and retrieving the briefcase for Carmella to crown the first Ms. Money in the Bank. The match will get a re-do next week on SmackDown LIVE as a way to try and make amends, but the damage was already done.

On the newest episode of his podcast, Dinner With The King, Lawler gave his thoughts on the controversial finish to the historic ladder match, and wasn’t exactly happy with how it all went down.

“That’s one thing that disturbed me, and hopefully they will fix that in some kind of way,” Lawler said on the podcast. “That’s what WWE has been about. We don’t even call them Divas anymore; it’s the women’s division because it’s about empowering women. So much of the emphasis that the WWE has put on the women’s division has done that.”

Lawler said that the match’s finish went against what WWE has been trying to build recently with their female superstars, and put the spotlight on a man in a women’s match.

“That’s why I was disappointed to see, in the first ever, historic Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match,” Lawler said. “They had to have a man climb the ladder and retrieve the Money in the Bank briefcase.”

There’s obviously still a possibility for Carmella to get the briefcase back on SmackDown LIVE next week, and an added element has Ellsworth banned from ringside for that match. However, it may be too little, too late, and fans already have a sour taste on what should’ve been a historic moment.
