The Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders meet in a rematch of last season’s Grey Cup on Thursday

In the 2016 Grey Cup, the Ottawa Redblacks pulled off one of the biggest upsets in CFL history when they knocked off the 15-2-1 Calgary Stampeders. The two teams meet in the opening week of the season with Calgary looking to get some revenge for the Grey Cup loss.

After winning the Grey Cup the Redblacks rosters looks decisively different. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Henry Burris retired and the team lost two of the best receivers in the league and three defensive starters in free agency. Trevor Harris replaces Burris at quarterback. Over the past two seasons, Harris has started more than 20 games and has put up very good numbers. Harris has completed 71.8 percent of his passes, averaging 8.81 yards per attempt with 49 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. If Harris continues to play efficiently and limits his turnovers the Redblacks should again be good.

The Stampeders were the class of the CFL last season. Offensively, Calgary can beat teams in so many different ways. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is the reigning Most Outstanding Player has the ability to pick apart defensive with several different receiving options. Jerome Messam led the league in rushing and was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian. Last season, Calgary led the league in offense and defense and again should be the top team in the CFL.
