At E3 2017, game director Michel Ancel showcased the first in-engine demo for Beyond Good and Evil 2. It’s obvious that it’s very early in development.

After so many years, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is officially happening and we’re very excited. This is a sequel that’s long overdue, and we’re glad it’s finally official. At E3 2017, it closed the Ubisoft press conference with a bang, showing off a world premiere cinematic trailer for the game. It definitely hit us in the feels, but we wanted some gameplay at the very least. Thankfully, we have a demo showing off the game’s engine is available, courtesy of game director Michel Ancel.

If we’re being honest, the demo doesn’t look like anything special. But, we would be foolish to think this was the final product. Obviously, this is simply a tech demo to show off the direction they’re trying to go in. Immediately, the vast and explorable world is very noticeable. Some of the gameplay features also seem very familiar. For example, the this ships and other vehicles. It’s all very nostalgic.

Of course, this game is still very early in development. In fact, according to Ancel, it’s in “day zero of development.” That’s unfortunate for us, but we’ve waited 15 years for this. Waiting a few more won’t hurt. As long as it can live up to the original or maybe even surpass it, then we’ll be alright.

Some details we do know include the game being a spiritual successor/prequel to the first game. Sadly, we probably won’t see Jade for the majority of this game. On the bright side, we’ll most likely learn about her parents and what they did. It’ll be very interesting to learn all the events prior to what happened in the first game.

We’re also very confident we’ll see a young Pey’j, which is cool. This game probably won’t release for another two or three years. We’ll be waiting patiently, though.
