Houston Astros 49-24

Last week: 4-2
Last rank: 1

Through no real fault of their own, the Astros have dropped out of the top spot in the MLB Power Rankings for the first time in almost two months. When you start the year 42-16, you set a pretty high bar that is not sustainable for an entire 162-game grind.

With Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers on the DL, the Astros have been forced to rely on Joe Musgrove, Mike Fiers, David Paulino, Francis Martes, and Brad Peacock. Only Peacock has given them consistent starts. Luckily, McCullers will be back by the end of the week. Keuchel’s return is still more uncertain.

Colorado Rockies 47-27

Last week: 5-1
Last rank: 4

The Rockies have the best record in the National League and have won 14 of 18 games entering Wednesday night’s game with the Diamondbacks. They have at least three players who should receive MVP votes — Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon, and Mark Reynolds. MLB fans all over the country have known how good Arenado is for the past five years, and he is finally getting the attention he actually deserves.

Arenado’s walk-off home run to complete the cycle on Sunday is one of the best moments in Rockies history. He has absolutely left behind the Coors Field disclaimer and has to be considered the best third baseman in the game.

Good pitching, good hitting, deep bullpen. The Rockies have never had a team like this. Buckle up for an epic run in the Mile High City.
