NBA Draft 2017: Magic take Jonathan Isaac at No. 6
By Ynal Al-Ouri
The Magic selected forward Jonathan Isaac with the sixth overall pick, in the 2017 NBA Draft.
The Orlando Magic drafted Jonathan Isaac out of Florida State, with the sixth overall pick in the NBA draft. Isaac possesses incredible length, and many scouts believed that he might have the highest ceiling out of this group.
Although Isaac has a slight frame, his wingspan and height set him apart from most forwards, and he can certainly add more muscle to his frame as he matures. Isaac also showcased great scoring ability, and a high-motor that truly excelled whenever he was running the floor in transition.
Isaac didn’t put up incredibly eye-popping stats at first glance, but he averaged an absurd 18.3 points, 12 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 3.4 blocks per game per 40 minutes. He will join ultra-athletic forward Aaron Gordon, to form one of the most athletic front courts in the NBA, oozing with potential. Issac also gives Magic point guard Elfrid Payton another weapon to help run the floor with and push the tempo.
A few weaknesses that concern many about Isaac is his iffy shooting ability. He showed the ability at times to shoot the long ball, but struggled at times with consistency from the outside.

Isaac also has a slight frame, but we have seen another player who had similar question marks coming into the league, and look what he has become (Kevin Durant). We’re not saying Issac will become the former league MVP, but his ceiling can certainly reach that high.
Orlando has to be excited that Isaac is staying in Florida, and it gives them a young core that could potentially lead them back to the post season. Isaac also became Florida State’s highest drafted player ever out of their program. Sky is the limit for this kid.
