The San Antonio Spurs are also considering bringing back guard George Hill, who played with them for three seasons, this offseason.

Looks like the San Antonio Spurs aren’t just going to target Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry, and Derrick Rose this free agency. They are also targeting George Hill.

Hill, who played with the San Antonio Spurs for three seasons from 2008 to 2011, will be entering free agency this summer. Both the Spurs and Hill are rumored to have mutual interest in having the point guard make a return to San Antonio, according to Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News.

Young said that Hill “would not mind a return to San Antonio” and that he has been waiting for an opportunity to “reunite with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich since 2013.” He also added that Hill still has a home in San Antonio and often goes to the Spurs’ practice facility to workout.

Hill and Popovich’s relationship goes a long way. Popovich, who once admitted to the Spurs’ roster that Hill was his favorite player, enjoyed the challenges of turning Hill into a more traditional point guard. He added that coaching Hill was fun because it was more than just telling him to run drills or run X’s and O’s; Hill really wanted to understand what a point guard is.

Hill reuniting with the Spurs would be a good move for both him and the team. Hill is an experienced point guard who can defend and score, as well as act as a bridge for Dejounte Murray. Additionally, his contract will most likely be cheaper than the likes of Paul, Lowry, or Rose. Above that, he has a really good relationship with Popovich.
