As many expected would be the case once David Griffin was ousted at the team’s general manager, the Cavaliers offered Chauncey Billups a five-year deal.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the basketball world when they got rid of David Griffin as their general manager a few days ago, and apparently have worked quickly to offer Chauncey Billups a deal to replace him.

According to a report from Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, the Cavaliers reportedly offered Billups a five-year deal to run the team’s front office decisions, and now they are just waiting on a decision from the former point guard on whether or not he wants to accept.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and Billups reportedly met two days in a row to discuss the former Detroit Pistons guard joining the team’s front office, and the deal would provide a long-term commitment to someone who hasn’t run a team elsewhere in the league. While Billups hasn’t accepted any deal officially, offering up a five-year deal after two days of meetings has to lead to something promising.

Billups has recently spent time as an analyst for ESPN, and reportedly left his role at The Big 3 basketball tournament to go take the position, according to Ice Cube (of all people).

The team’s decision to get rid of Griffin as their general manager didn’t go over well with the Cavaliers’ players, specifically LeBron James, and the team had players telling Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler to avoid leaving for Cleveland because of the chaos.

Billups will surely have his work cut out for him right away, as he will have to deal with LeBron’s pending free agency next summer, the team reported willingness to part ways with Kyrie Irving and plenty of other turmoil in Cleveland.
