The first round of the 2017 NHL Draft will be held on Friday June 23. Here’s how you can watch the first round.

It’s that time of the year again. The 2017 NHL Draft is upon us. As usual, its format will be simple. The first round, consisting of 31 picks for the first time in league history, will take place on Friday evening, beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET. On Saturday, the remaining six rounds will be held.

The first round should be quite exciting for several reasons. First of all, the Vegas Golden Knights already have three first round picks, and each of them are in the lottery half of the draft. Secondly, teams like the Arizona Coyotes and St. Louis Blues have multiple first round picks. They either might try to package them together to move up or another team might try to trade their way back into the first round.

Finally, considering how many extra defensemen the Golden Knights have, they might pull off some trades during the draft. Likely won’t get them another first round pick, but it should net them more draft capital.

The NHL Draft will be shown on NBCSN in the United States and on Sportsnet in Canada. Coverage starts at around 6:30 p.m. ET for both channels, with things hopefully getting underway around 7:00 p.m. ET.

Venue: United Center
Location: Chicago, IL

The real fun should begin on Saturday. Keep an eye on Vegas and the Carolina Hurricanes, both of whom have picks to burn. Of course, the Golden Knights end goal is to increase their draft capital while Carolina might be more interested in trading picks for players. It should be a very interesting NHL Draft, thanks to the addition of Vegas.
