The New York Mets appear ready to tear down their squad and it looks like Asdrubal Cabrera wants to be first out the door.
Between injuries and ineffectiveness, the New York Mets 2017 season has been a disaster. They currently sit 12 games behind the division leading Washington Nationals and 14.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.
The Mets appear ready to trade some of their veterans with expiring contracts, and it appears that Asdrubal Cabrera, who was activated off the disabled list tonight, would like to be one of the first ones out the door.
Asdrubal Cabrera says he's not happy about the move to second base. He has asked his agent to help him get traded from the Mets.

Cabrera says he asked Mets to guarantee his 2018 option earlier this season, and they declined. Part of the reason he wants to be traded.

The Mets moved Cabrera to keep Jose Reyes at shortstop. Reyes, like Cabrera, will be a free agent after the season, however, Reyes is hitting .193 with a -1.1 WAR thus far.
Making Cabrera unhappy for someone who’s performing as poorly as Reyes doesn’t make much sense. If it was to bring up top prospect Amed Rosario, that would be one thing, but not for a 34-year-old who probably won’t be on the team next year.

Cabrera is hitting .244 with a .713 OPS in 49 games this season. With over a month to go before the trade deadline, this may just be the beginning of the drama in Queens.
