It’s time for 2017 NBA free agency now that the draft is over, but when does the period start and what other important dates do you need to know?

Now that the 2017 NBA Draft has subsided and all 60 picks have been read, it’s on to 2017 NBA free agency. As entertaining as the draft is (this one in particular with all of the trades), it pales in comparison to free agency. When you have teams competing financially for talent on the open market, it’s always a wild scene.

Making 2017 NBA free agency even wilder, however, is the fact that there are some major names available this year that should make it even crazier. The high-profile pair of Los Angeles Clippers in Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are likely to hit the market. What’s more, players like Paul Millsap, Gordon Hayward and Kyle Lowry will be free agents.

The point is that there is franchise-altering talent available. Now what remains to be see is what teams do to land their services in 2017 NBA free agency.

However, from a fan’s perspective, we all want to know when everything gets underway. When does free agency start? What other important dates are there to know? That’s where we’ve got you covered.

Though there will be rumors before then, the league moratorium begins on July 1. That’s when players and teams can reach verbal agreements on deals, though nothing is official. You’ll remember the DeAndre Jordan situation from a few years back when he changed his mind about going to Dallas.

Players and teams can then make signings official in NBA free agency starting on July 6 at Noon ET. That’s when deals, contracts, trades and so one can all start becoming official.

The one other date of note in NBA free agency would be July 13. That’s when teams have to withdraw qualifying offers to restricted free agents if they plan to do so. But it all starts going down when the new league year begins on July 1. Let’s all strap in for what should be a frenzy this year.
