New Zealand vs. Portugal live stream: Watch Confederations Cup online
New Zealand face Portugal at the Stadion Krestovsky on Saturday, June 24. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
New Zealand and Portugal face off in the last of the group stage games in the Confederations Cup on Saturday. Portugal come into the matchup on four points after a draw against Mexico and a win against Russia. New Zealand come into the game on zero points after losses to Russia and Mexico.
New Zealand are looking for consolation at this point, since they’re not able to advance into the semifinals. New Zealand put in an admirable effort against Mexico, and even took the lead in the first half, but ultimately couldn’t hold on as the Mexicans superior talent showed through. Against Portugal, it’s hard to see things playing out much differently for the All Whites.
In Portugal’s first game against Mexico, their back line was exposed as slow to react on crosses. Against Russia they were able to hold out despite some good attacking play in the second half from the hosts. This aspect of Portugal’s defense was vulnerable last year at Euro 2016, and yet they won. So it may not impact them throughout the tournament. It certainly won’t against New Zealand.
On the offensive end they have been able to play around Cristiano Ronaldo in brilliant fashion. His ever-changing ability to adapt to how the defense is playing him has served the team well. He put this into play using his sneaky runs into the box as target practice for a goal against Russia.
