A year after his final victory in NASCAR, Tony Stewart’s drivers dominated the 2017 Toyota Save Mart 350 en route to a Kevin Harvick win at Sonoma.

When Tony Stewart won the final race of his career in NASCAR, he did it in style. On Sunday, a year after his final victory, Stewart’s drivers put together their best performances of the season and made a statement for their boss. A rare drought came to an end for Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer took a damaged car to second.

Martin Truex Jr. began the race just as he has about every other race this season. He won the first stage and it looked like another day where he was going to factor into the finish. For probably the first time this season, bad luck befell one of his best starts.

Engine problems began to pop up for the No. 78 and his chances at factoring into yet another finish came to an end. Jimmie Johnson pulled away with a huge win in the second stage to add another playoff point to his total on the year and put himself in line for a chance at his 84th win.

That’s when Harvick and Bowyer went to work. After passing Johnson, the duo didn’t let anyone come close to touching them. With the victory, Harvick won for the first time in 20 races, cruising home with only minor fuel mileage concerns during an extended green flag run that lasted for more than an hour — though he took the checkered flag under yellow thanks to Kasey Kahne hitting the wall behind him.
