The Dallas Stars have been busy this off-season in an attempt to avoid missing the playoffs for a second year in a row. They have made moves in between the pipes, and now they are trying to shore up their defensive core with blue line veteran Marc Methot.

The Dallas Stars have been busy this off-season fixing the defensive and netminding issues that kept them out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. First they acquired goaltender Ben Bishop, then they bought out Antti Niemi, and now they have their sights focused in front of net. The first move to shore up the defensive corps sees veteran defenseman Marc Methot coming to the Lone Star State.

The Stars parted ways with newly-drafted goalie Dylan Ferguson, who currently plays for the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. He has played two seasons with the Blazers, and his development has skyrocketed. He played in 31 games for the Blazers last season, posting a 2.74 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.

Ferguson was ranked as the eighth-best North American goaltending prospect of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. The Stars bought into the hype, selecting Ferguson in the seventh round with the 194th overall pick. However, the 18-year-old goalie won’t be part of the Stars prospect pool.

Along with sending Ferguson to Vegas, the Stars also sent a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft in exchange for Marc Methot. While Methot isn’t a difference maker, this is being widely accepted as a smart piece of business for the Stars moving forward.

Methot is a veteran of 579 NHL games. He played the first 275 games of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2003 NHLDraft. During his time with the Blue Jackets, Methot had seven goals and 51 assists. He is more well-known for his time with the Ottawa Senators, who he played with for his remaining 304 games. During his time in the Canadian capital, he had 14 goals and 55 assists.

The 32-year-old has two seasons remaining on his contract. He carries a $4.9 million cap hit in each of those two remaining seasons.
