After rumors earlier today, Nintendo has officially announced the SNES Classic. Let’s hope we don’t get a repeat of the NES Classic and it’s terrible supply.

A bunch of rumors were going around early Monday, stating the SNES Classic is a thing and it’s officially in development, courtesy of Destructoid. The rumors were true. Nintendo has confirmed the existence of the SNES Classic. According to the box, it’ll come with two classic SNES controllers and a variety of games, such as Super Mario World and Earthbound.

The NES Classic had all the tools to be successful. It comes with 30 classic built-in games, the original controller, and an HDMI upgrade to play on your TVs. Best of all? It’s only $60. There’s no way this could go wrong, right? We were so wrong. Once again, Nintendo made them in a short supply and only a few were able to get their hands on it. Eventually, the system was discontinued, leaving fans in disarray.

Nintendo can’t make the same mistake twice. Then again, this has been a problem for the company for years now. The consoles always seem to be in short supply and most of them are difficult to find. The perfect example is the Nintendo Switch. While it’s not nearly as hard as finding an NES Classic was, it’s still fairly challenging to find one in stores.

Nintendo needs to up the ante and deliver a large supply of the SNES Classic consoles. These consoles need to be in the hands of everyone if Nintendo wants to get back into the good graces of the fans. We also have a few things we would love to see the SNES Classic incorporate, which would improve on the shortcomings of the NES Classic.

For one, more games. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case now since only 20+ games are confirmed for the console. Visit Kotaku for the full list.

Maybe Nintendo has a plan to add more via updates? We can dream. What has us very interested is we’ll finally be able to play Star Fox 2. Overall, we’re still excited for this.

The SNES Classic launches on Sept. 29, 2017.
