Legends Jim Ross and Lita have been announced as the commentary team for the WWE Mae Young Classic, featuring the best women’s talent in the world
If you’re excited about the forthcoming WWE Mae Young Classic, you’re not alone. Women’s wrestling has seen a rise in both exposure and talent level in recent years. And now WWE will bring that to the forefront on the WWE Network in September.
Part of the field has already been announced for the WWE Mae Young Classic. Tessa Blanchard, Toni Storm, Lacey Evans, Kavita Devi, Jazzy Gabbert, Princesa Sugehit, Sarah Logan, Abbey Laith and Taynara Conti will all compete. Given the breadth of talent in pro wrestling in terms of women, though, they’re just the tip of the iceberg.
However, fans now have another reason to be excited about the WWE Mae Young Classic. On Monday, the company announced that legendary commentator Jim Ross and former WWE Women’s Champion and Hall-of-Famer Lita will be on the call for the tournament.
The inclusion of these two on commentary is absolutely enormous for the tournament. Those who watched the Cruiserweight Classic last year will recall that Daniel Bryan and Mauro Ranallo helped make the event. Their ability to add gravitas to the tournament and each match helped push everything forward. JR and Lita will add that to the Mae Young Classic.
Now WWE has the task of doing their job in completing the field. They are obviously following the mold of the Cruiserweight Classic in adding worldwide talent. With that being said, they also need to focus on brining in some bigger names than they already have.

Talents such as Candice LeRae (who’s married to Johnny Gargano), Kimber Lee and many, many more should be invited. The WWE Mae Young Classic is going to be great regardless, and now they have an A-plus commentary team. Now they just have to continue to hit home runs with the rest of the field.
