Indians score 13 unanswered runs to stun Rangers

The Cleveland Indians overturned a 9-2 deficit at Progressive Field on Monday night to beat the Texas Rangers.

It was a long Monday night for the Texas Rangers, who received an unflattering thrashing at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. After the Rangers jumped out to an early seven-run lead, the Cleveland bats came alive for 13 unanswered runs to score the victory.

Elvis Andrus helped the Rangers look good early. He helped himself to his second career multi-homer game with a three-run blast in the second and a solo shot in the fourth. Adrian Beltre contributed a three-run shot of his own, but things took a nasty turn after that.

The Indians scored four runs in the fifth to close the gap to 9-7. Francisco Lindor, Lonnie Chisenhall and Carlos Santana each had three RBIs to help the cause. It was Chisenhall’s two-run, bases loaded single that eventually put Cleveland ahead 10-9. And they never looked back.

Cole Hamels made his first start since April 26 but was tagged for seven runs in just over four innings. Every Cleveland batter registered at least one hit. And along the way, the Tribe avoided losing their fourth straight game.

Indians manager Terry Francona had to be removed from the game for the second time this month. He was suffering from an undisclosed illness. On June 13, he was treated by the team’s medical examiner after leaving a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Carlos Carrasco entered the game having won his last three starts, but he ended up responsible for eight runs on six hits in just three innings of work.

With the win, Cleveland regains control of the AL Central. On Tuesday night, Texas looks to rebound, as they send Mike Clevinger to the mound to face Tyson Ross in a battle of struggling right-handers.
