Who says there’s no football to watch these days? Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the newly-formed American Flag Football League.

Are you ready for the…American Flag Football League?

Sounds like fun. And it begins on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. ET at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California. Founded by businessman Jeffrey Lewis, the league has the support of a number of former NFL players. The list includes one-time Seattle Seahawks linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski, Jacksonville Jaguars safety Donovin Darius and Miami Dolphins fullback Rob Konard (via Business Wire). All are members of the league’s board of advisors.

On the field, it will feature the likes of quarterback Mike Vick. There’s also wide receivers Terrell Owens and Ochocinco and running back Justin Forsett. It’s an exciting time for this new venture.

"“There’s no better place to showcase our new game than to the passionate fans of the Bay Area,” said Lewis in a league release (via Sal Pizarro of the Mercury News). “This inaugural game in June will be the first step toward establishing a league and standard for a rapidly growing sport that is entertaining for today’s generation of fans and captivating to witness in person.”“When I first heard about the AFFL, and the opportunity to continue doing what I love most, playing football, I had to be involved,” said Vick last month. “Like most kids, I grew up playing flag, and this league brings me back to the days when I was a teenager learning the game of football.”"

It’s a quiet time in the National Football League these days. Teams are roughly a month away from heading to training camps. So a big game of flag football is the perfect remedy for the fans starved for some pigskin action.
