Washington Wizards: Wolf Blitzer

When you spend as much time in Washington as Blitzer, you need a local hobby. The Wizards, especially as they’ve become more competitive over the last decade or so, and with an arena right downtown for people like Blitzer to catch games, have become the perfect hobby. They crop up with intrigue often enough to keep their fans interested, but otherwise mostly stay quiet. The team represents a distraction for Blitzer, who is used to the fiery political games of Washington.

Blitzer has season tickets for the Wizards, and claims to have fallen in love with the team over the past few years. They have an exciting core that includes John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter, finally rewarding Blitzer for his years of dedication. Even in a metropolitan area like D.C., very few celebrity fans originate there. Blitzer’s only competition for Wizards love is the rapper Wale, whom no one has ever heard of. Blitzer is the host of CNN’s Situation Room, while Wale makes music sometimes.

Name another local NBA fan who could get a write-up in both ESPN and Politico. Blitzer is the perfect guy to rep Washington in the NBA because he’s about as Washington as it gets. He’s the kind of political guy whose association with things is never quite explained, and his Wizards fandom leans that way as well. Who really is Wolf Blitzer, how did he end up in our nation’s capital, and why on Earth does he still like the Wizards?
