The great state of Texas has produced some of the best players the NFL has ever seen, and we take a look at what a Texas-only mock draft would look like.

The NFL is in a bit of a slow period right now, and it gives us that love the sport a chance to put together some fun mock drafts. We take a look at what a mock draft after the 2017 NFL season would look like if teams could only draft players that were born in the state of Texas. Texas has produced some incredible players throughout the history of the NFL, but we are narrowing it down to current players.

While some players played their high school ball in Texas, while being born in other states, we will only use players born in the state. That leaves out players like Matthew Stafford, Andrew Luck, and 2017 first-round pick Solomon Thomas, all of whom were born outside of the Lonestar State. The draft order is made up by our best guess at where the teams will fall next season.

The New York Jets will draft first, and it appears they are going to finally get a quarterback who can win them some games.

Drew Brees

Quarterback, Austin, Texas

The New York Jets accomplished exactly what they set out for in 2017, as they played bad enough to get the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. With that pick, the Jets selected their franchise quarterback, even if it is only going to be for a couple of years. That pick is Drew Brees, who threw for over 5,000 yards in his final season with the New Orleans Saints in 2017.

Adding Brees finally gives the Jets the quarterback they have been waiting for, though he will be joining a team that was stripped of most of their assets prior to the 2017 NFL season. With Brees, the Jets should be able to move the ball a lot better than they did in 2017 with Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty, and Josh McCown under center. Brees showed last season that he still has plenty left in the tank, but he is certain to take his fair share of hits next season with the Jets makeshift line in front of him.

Drew Brees in New York means a lot of ticket sales for the Jets, who likely will finish at the bottom of the AFC East once again in 2018. Not since Brett Favre has the Jets went into a season with such a commodity at quarterback, and while he may break a few single-season Jets records, they need a heck of a lot more talent around him if they wish for a Wildcard spot in 2018.
