The 2017 Auburn Tigers should be one of the better teams in the SEC. Here is a look at what the top of their depth chart could look like.

2016 was a decent year for the Auburn Tigers football program, but an overall down year for the SEC. While Auburn finished ranked in the top-25 and made it to a New Year’s Six bowl, the Tigers still went 8-5 (5-3).

However, they did lose to three Power 5 conference champions last year in the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Oklahoma Sooners and the eventual national champion Clemson Tigers. Then again, losing at home to the division rival Texas A&M Aggies at home and the cross-divisional Georgia Bulldogs in Athens didn’t help.

2016 was both good and bad for Auburn football. The Tigers finally put together something competent defensively with the addition of defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. However, the quarterback situation was simply chaotic. Former offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee eventually left Auburn to go be Randy Edsall’s offensive coordinator with the UConn Huskies.

Nevertheless, Auburn should be one of the better teams in the SEC next year. Gus Malzahn’s group might be the biggest challenger in the SEC West to in-state rival Alabama. Getting cross-divisional foe Georgia at home helps, but on the road in Clemson isn’t at all.

Overall, Auburn the clout to be one of the few teams in the SEC to win the conference outside of Alabama. If they can take two of three from Alabama, Georgia and LSU, this could be your SEC West champion. Let’s take a look at what the top of Auburn’s depth chart looks like heading into this summer.
