The Phoenix Suns will continue to hunt for a free-agent power forward, as now it looks like they’ll be meeting with Paul Millsap on Saturday.

The Phoenix Suns are looking to be active in free agency this year. They have a young core of Devin Booker and Josh Jackson and want to pair that with a veteran, high-priced free agent. Earlier, it was reported that Blake Griffin would meet with the Suns on Saturday, July 1 when free agency begins. Phoenix is prepared to offer him a max contract and bring him to the Valley of the Sun.

Now, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Suns are also going to pursue Paul Millsap, another free-agent power forward. The Suns are looking seriously at this position, as they only have younger guys playing it right now. They would surely like a veteran who can lead these inexperienced players and also help lead the franchise back to its winning ways.

The former Atlanta Hawk had his best season yet in 2016-17, at age 31. He averaged 18.1 points, and 7.7 rebounds on 44 percent shooting. Millsap has also started to develop a three-point shot, as he took nearly four 3s per game. Although he only shot 31 percent, the threat of the three-pointer is important for floor spacing.

Millsap has spent his career between Utah and Atlanta, but might be looking elsewhere. Phoenix has the cap space to offer a max contract, but they might be looking at Millsap as a backup option. They’re meeting with Griffin first, so the Clippers’ forward might be Plan A.

The ex-Hawks’ forward would definitely improve the Suns next season, giving them scoring, rebounding and a lot of leadership. Phoenix Suns are definitely making some moves this summer, after tanking the last few seasons. Can they land one of these big men during the offseason? Time will tell, but they’re lining up meetings with them starting on Saturday.
