California

Golden State Warriors

No state in the nation has a larger base of professional and amateur sports teams to choose from than California. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have two of baseball’s most passionate fanbases and each as a history of success, as do the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders (though for the obvious reason the team is moving to Las Vegas, the Raiders aren’t a great fit for us). The Lakers are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history, and the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins hold a similar stature in college football and men’s basketball, respectively.

However, in terms of “what have you done for me lately,” the 2017 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, who also won the title in 2015, are the hottest franchise in the NBA, and therefore, one of the most popular teams in all of professional sports.

The Warriors’ most recent title was the fifth in the history of the franchise, which dates back to 1946 when the team was based in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Warriors won the Basketball Association of America title in 1947 and 1956 before relocating across the country to the San Francisco Bay Area. Known first as the San Francisco Warriors, Golden State settled in Oakland and won the 1975 NBA Championship.

With NBA superstars including two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and newcomer Kevin Durant, the Warriors are a legitimate NBA Super Team. Time will tell how many titles the franchise wins with its current core of players, but for now, the Warriors are the clear America’s Team nominee representing the Golden State.
