Following the wild news of Paul George being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Joel Embiid had some hilarious thoughts on the situation

Joel Embiid is simultaneously one of the most outspoken and entertaining NBA players. At the crux of the hilarity that the Philadelphia 76ers star youngster brings to the table is his Twitter account. If he has a filter, it’s one with very large grating. He’s not afraid to comment on just about anything and has a propensity for cracking up the masses in the process.

So on Friday night leading up to the start of 2017 NBA free agency, Embiid wasn’t worried about where to go next, obviously. However, he was keeping a close eye on when everything went down. That means he was watching when news broke that the Oklahoma City Thunder had traded for Paul George, leaving the Indiana Pacers without their superstar.

Rather than just sit there and absorb the information, though, Embiid of course had to comment. And in typical fashion, he noted that there’s not room opening up for the Sixers to make a move into a playoff spot:

There’s both merit and, well, not to Embiid’s underlying point there. With George leaving, the Eastern Conference is undoubtedly weaker. And yes, that means another spot in the postseason is opening up. All of this is inherently true and it’s something that teams, like the Sixers, could take advantage of.

At the same time, however, Philadelphia is a team that’s still building. They have immense talent on their side and their upside is almost immeasurable. But they still have to put it all together, and still have a ways to grow.

Could they ultimately come out of the cellar and compete for a playoff spot? Without question. That’s how talented players like Embiid are. However, it’s definitely not a formality.
