Why the Indians should do it: For all the talk about the Cleveland Indians rotation, they could actually use another one. Danny Salazar is hurt. Josh Tomlin and Trevor Bauer have struggled thus far this year. If this team is going to get back to the playoffs and the World Series, they are going to need to get another impact starting arm in order to get there and make the move like they did for Andrew Miller.

Enter Gray, although he is injury prone, is exactly the kind of arm to slide in with Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco who are both having excellent seasons. Those three, combined with the offense they have and the bullpen they have could be just enough to get them back to the World Series and end the longest championship drought in baseball history.

Why the A’s should do it: Gray is a big chip to cash in for a team that’s rebuilding. In Mckenzie, the hope is that him and A.J. Puk, their first-round pick last season, can form the top part of the A’s rotation of the future. In Jones, they get another bat that they can develop in the low minors, someone who’s just 19 years old, but was a former first pick.

In Merritt, they have someone that can slot right now in the rotation and figure out if he’s a part of it moving forward, or someone who can be a valuable swingman as a starter and a reliever.
