MLB Trade Rumors: One trade each team should make
By Jason Evans
Why the Tigers should do it: The Detroit Tigers are in sell mode. J.D. Martinez will surely go before the trade deadline. The problem is they have some massive contracts in Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera and Jordan Zimmermann that are not going to be easy to move if they can be moved at all. If the Tigers are going to get some more young talent in to complement guys like Michael Fulmer, they are going to have to trade someone like Justin Wilson.
Wilson can land them Brett Phillips who they can let play centerfield and learn at the major league level. The Tigers have had some trouble filling that spot since they moved Cameron Maybin in the off-season and this would give them their centerfielder for now and in the future instead of running out Andrew Romine and Tyler Collins.
Why the Brewers should do it: The Brewers have too many good young outfielders and not enough spots to put them. Keon Broxton and Domingo Santana are certifying themselves in left and center respectively. Ryan Braun is still manning left and it would be hard to move him at a time when they are in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Among their top prospects they have Lewis Brinson, Corey Ray and Trent Clark along with Phillips. In this scenerio, the Brewers get the bullpen help they need as Wilson can pair with Corey Knebel at the back end of the pen, something that they really need if they are going to keep this run going.
