After winning their season openers, the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes meet at Commonwealth Stadium on June 30, 2017.

The Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes both won their first games of the season. Edmonton defeated the B.C. Lions 30-27, while Montreal defeated Saskatchewan 17-16. In the second game of the season, Edmonton hosts Montreal at Commonwealth Stadium.

Montreal’s win against the Roughriders was not very impressive. If not for a missed 45-yard field goal, Tyler Crapigna the Alouettes would have lost. Montreal was outgained 401-332 yards offensively but the defense stepped up and forced two Saskatchewan turnovers. While Montreal’s offensive is still a work in progress, the defense looks like it will again be one of the better units in the CFL.

The Montreal defense will be tested against the explosive Edmonton offense. The Eskimos offense recorded 420 yards against the Lions, including 315 yards passing from Mike Reilly. Running back John White was the only player to rush for more than 100 yards in the opening week of the season. Defensively, Edmonton was able to get pressure on Jonathan Jennings throughout the game. Defensive end Odell Willis recorded two of Edmonton’s five sacks.
