New York Knicks: Patty Mills

At this point, who the hell knows what the New York Knicks are going to do. With the firing of Phil Jackson, the saga continuing with both Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony, and the general sentiment of the Knicks being the Knicks, it’s a crapshoot at this point. There’s no clear definition as to what their plan for the offseason and free agency truly is. As such, we’re left to basically look at the roster and make assumptions. Thus, that’s what we’ll try to do here.

Last offseason, the wise Zen Master now without a job deemed it reasonable to bring in Derrick Rose. That move worked out every bit as horribly as you’d expect as he was a detriment to the progression of Porzingis and, thus, the Knicks as a whole. Now they’re left without a veteran point guard again, though they do have an exciting young prospect in No. 8 overall pick Frank Ntilikina out of France. However, he’s far from being ready to take over an NBA offense as he’ll be just 19 years old. Therefore, the Knicks should be left trying to find a player who can balance being a veteran presence while also allowing the rookie to get enough burn.

Patty Mills is a great player to fill that void. With the San Antonio Spurs, Mills is largely known for his ability to fill it up from 3-point range. While that will be a nice asset to the Knicks, he’s also adept at running an offense and being a stable presence in the backcourt (the Spurs way of life). Adding that type of player at a reasonable price would be huge for the Knicks moving forward.

But again, who knows what this team is going to do now — or ever.
