NBA Free Agency 2017: One signing every team should make
Orlando Magic: Kyle Korver
Right out of the gate, it’s important to mention that a team such as the Orlando Magic being able to get Kyle Korver in NBA free agency is wholly contingent upon what the player is looking for in the 2017-18 season. At this point, it’s hard to say what that is. If he’s looking for another Cavaliers type run at a championship, something that’s eluded him to this point in his career, the Magic aren’t going to offer that.
However, Korver could get paid heftily by a team like the Magic, which is why they have to be in play. And in terms of what Orlando needs to add to their team as they try to rebuild, Korver wholly fits the bill. This is a team that is almost completely devoid of consistent outside shooting. And though he’s a long way away from being a young asset, Korver is one of the most proven shooters in this league that would give that element to the Magic offense next season.
Why it’s important for the Magic to add that type of player now in any capacity is largely to see if what they have in terms of assets can work when surrounded with outside shooting. Can Elfrid Payton progress when playing with a player of that ilk? How about the front court and other pieces? These are all questions that the Magic need to answer moving forward, but can’t given their current roster construction. As such, he’s a strong candidate for the hole Orlando needs to fill.
