Chicago Bulls: Otto Porter

On the heels of getting fleeced by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Jimmy Butler trade, the Chicago Bulls seemingly are in a position where they’ll largely be starting from scratch with their team. They have talent on the roster still, no doubt. However, they’re going to need to add solid pieces that can help them in the future for now as they try to replace their unquestioned star. Being able to sign a player like Otto Porter would undoubtedly fit into those plans.

Throughout his career with the Washington Wizards to this point, Porter has clearly established himself as one of the premier two-way wings in the league. He’s improved immensely in terms of his reliability and versatility as a scorer since when he first came into the league. What’s more, he’s begun to realize his potential on the defensive end of the floor as well. Though he’s played third-fiddle on the Wizards to this point in his career, he’s shown enough to make you believe he’ll be able to handle more of a workload in a new home.

Given the departure of Butler, that’s likely what the Bulls would ask from him. What’s more, he’d be a nice piece to help one of the linchpins in the Butler trade, Zach LaVine, continue to develop as he’s still deficient as a defensive player. Porter is a player that would both help Chicago stay competitive immediately, but also to build something better for the future. That’s the type of signing they need to make.
