NBA Trade rumors: Cleveland in talks with Houston about Iman Shumpert
The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to free up some salary as they are in talks to send Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets.
Earlier on Saturday morning, it was reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers were looking to move Iman Shumpert. There were numerous suitors, but at the time, the teams weren’t disclosed.
Now, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavaliers are in serious discussions with the Houston Rockets to trade Shumpert.
Cavaliers fans: don’t expect a player in return. This seems to be a salary dump move for Cleveland, which is looking to acquire some salary cap space to possible re-sign some of their players or set up future deals that they can make.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst went on to add that it would involve a future draft pick and possibly a trade exception the Cavaliers can use in future deals.
It looks like Cleveland really wants to keep Kyle Korver, who the team traded to get from the Atlanta Hawks mid-way through last season. Korver was a beautiful fit with LeBron James, who was able to find him on numerous occasions.
The sharp-shooter is set to be a free agent, so the Cavaliers are trying to free up some space to re-sign him to a deal. Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania is adding that teams were looking to try and adjust Shumpert’s contract.
The way it’s currently set up, Shumpert has a player option after one season for $11 million, but teams want to get rid of that possibly, so that they can be guaranteed to have the defensive wing for two seasons.
