Sharks re-sign veteran Joe Thornton on one-year deal
By Trey Daubert
Joe Thornton has agreed to a one-year deal to keep him in San Jose. Will he finish his storied career with the Sharks?
The bearded wonder Joe Thornton will stick around for at least one more year. After making a Stanley Cup appearance just a year ago, the Sharks wanted to keep the savvy veteran Joe Thornton around for another run at the Cup. We will get to see one of the greatest hockey players of all time for at least another season.
Sharks beat writer Kevin Kurz of NBC Sports California first reported the news. The official terms of the deal have not been reported yet.
Thornton, 38, will sign a short-term deal after suffering late-season injuries. He underwent surgery for a torn ACL and MCL that he suffered in April during the Sharks playoff run. Thornton played through the knee injury during the first round of the Western Conference playoffs always bringing the tough guy mentality that hockey needs.
Thornton will now enter his 20th NHL season which is an accomplishment in its own right. The six-time All-Star has scored 1,391 points over the course of his storied career. That mark is good for 23 on the All-Time NHL points list. The former number one overall pick by the Boston Bruins in 1997 has carved out a heck of a career whenever he decides to hang up the skates. Thornton was dealt with the Sharks in the 2005-2006 season where he went on to win the NHL MVP award.
Teammate Brent Burns seems awfully excited to have his teammate back in town.

The Sharks defensive man Burns and fellow Canadian was definitely thrilled with the news. San Jose will now be looking to re-sign Patrick Marleau back to the team. The duo of Marleau and Thornton needs at least one more go around for the fans of San Jose right!
