LeBron James is keeping a low profile this 2017 NBA offseason.

Despite the constant NBA free agency chatter dominating the headlines in recent days, it appears LeBron James wants no part of it. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin LeBron has not been an active member of any offseason talks the Cavs have been having with available players.

To summarize: that’s not good for Cleveland.

It’s comes as a bit of a surprise that LeBron appears to be sitting on the sideline for these conversations, especially since he’s had such an active role in previous years. The added loss of general manager David Griffin would also seem to suggest LeBron would take a more active role, unless this is a precursor to the rumors he plans on leaving Cleveland next year.

The Cavs have already succeeded in attaining one of their two primary offseason targets, signing Jose Calderon to a one year deal. Next, it appears they will go after long time Memphis Grizzlie Zach Randolph.

That seems to be about it, though.

With all of the talent available on the market, does Cleveland and LeBron truly believe that two aging veterans past their prime will be difference makers? LeBron has great relationships with many of the top players in the league, so it is possible he’s working some magic. It’s also possible that at this point in LeBron’s career, he’s content with enjoying his offseason.

Either way, it’s going to take more than Jose Calderon and Zach Randolph if the Cavs want to hoist the championship trophy once again.
