Free agent guard Vince Carter is reportedly meeting with the Sacramento Kings on Monday, according to ESPN.
Vince Carter is reportedly going to meet with the Sacramento Kings on Monday. It is a bit surprising considering Carter is 40 years old, the Kings aren’t a contender and has yet to win a championship during his illustrious career.
There were rumors that 19-year veteran Carter, would take a pay cut to potentially join the defending champs, but it appears those talks have slowed down. Although Sacramento has some talented young players on their roster now, they are light years away from making the playoffs in a loaded Western Conference.
Carter has spent the last three seasons playing for the Memphis Grizzlies and has been a decent role player for them during that stretch. His contributions in the 3-point department have been solid, and it’s been amazing to see him remain relatively healthy despite his age.

Joining the Warriors certainly would be a great way for Carter to end his career, but winning a championship doesn’t necessarily seem like it’s the most important thing on his mind. Despite never capturing an NBA championship, Carter has quite the resume. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1999, an 8-time NBA All-Star, an All-NBA second and third team recipient, and of course a Slam Dunk Contest champion.
Carter certainly doesn’t have the athleticism that worked in his favor during his prime, but he still brings a valuable veteran presence, and a reliable 3-point shot to any team he ends up suiting up for. It’s been a joy to watch him play over all these years, but it’d be great if he joined a team that could contend.
