2. Relief from the Left
Along with their starting rotation, the Dodgers might look to make a deal for an addition to their bullpen. Their relievers have been pretty solid this season, but if the right guy comes along, as in the right lefty, the Dodgers could be willing to make a deal.
Shoring up the bullpen would allow the team to ensure that they aren’t losing close games. This is important heading toward the end of the season because there’s no guarantee that the Diamondbacks and the Rockies won’t get hot again. The Dodgers are currently three games in front of Arizona, which isn’t a big margin of error.
One of the names that CBS Sports is throwing around is the Padres’ Brad Hand. The Lefty was named to the All-Star team as the Padres’ sole representative. Right now he’s the hero in San Diego, with an impressive 2.53 ERA in 42.4 innings of work. This is noteworthy because the Padres traded their 2016 All-Star pitcher Drew Pomeranz to the Red Sox mere days after he appeared in the All-Star Game. Losing Brad Hand to the Dodgers would sting for Padres fans.
Some of the other names in the hat (pending availability) are Yu Darvish, Jason Vargas, and Derek Holland.
