By Adam Stocker
Here’s how the 12 teams are grouped at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup is a 12 team tournament between teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Canada, Mexico and the United States will represent North America in the tournament. The top four finishers in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana and Caribbean Cup qualified for the Gold Cup. Honduras, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica represent Central America. Curacao, Martinique, French Guiana and Jamaica will represent the island nations. The final team to qualify were Nicaragua, who defeated Haiti in a playoff between the fifth place teams in Central America and the Caribbean.
Group A
After winning the Copa Centroamericana, Honduras were seeded in Group A. The group also features Canada, Costa Rica and French Guiana, who are making their tournament debut. Canada won the Gold Cup in 2000, making them the only former winners in the group. However, Honduras and Costa Rica are the favorites to advance to the quarterfinals. Canada could advance as a third-place team.
Group B
The United States headline Group B and are the favorites to win the group. The other teams in Group B are Martinique, Nicaragua and Panama. This is the second Gold Cup for Nicaragua, who failed to get out of the group stage in 2009. Panama lost in the final in 2005 and 2013. Martinique have appeared in the tournament five times, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2002.

Group C
Group C features Curacao, El Salvador, Jamaica and Mexico. In the 2015 Gold Cup final, Mexico defeated Jamaica and are among the favorites again this year. El Salvador have advanced out of the group stage four times but have lost in the quarterfinals every time. Curacao are making their first Gold Cup appearance but did finish third in 1963 and 1969 in the Gold Cup’s predecessor, the CONCACAF Championship.
