MLB trade rumors: One player each team should target

We don’t know yet how the MLB trade deadline will play out, but we do know who each team should be targeting.

The 2017 MLB trade deadline is just under a month away, and thing are still very much up in the air. Some things have been clarified. Andrew McCutchen is as good as gone from Pittsburgh. The Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants should be thinking about selling everyone, and the Washington Nationals definitely need a closer.

However, with so much of the American League left in the playoff hunt and so many teams in the Nationla League almost done with their rebuild, it is going to be an interesting trade deadline. Will the Chicago Cubs make another blockbuster trade to shake up their disappointing season? Will the Baltimore Orioles pull the plug and deal Manny Machado? So much is yet to be determined over the next few weeks. Rest assured, MLB general managers all over the country are holed up in their trade bunkers and getting to work.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Pat Neshek

The Diamondbacks rank in the lower half of the league when it comes to their farm system, but they do have enough to make at least one minor move. That means a bullpen arm or a platoon bat to come off the bench. With one of the deepest lineups in the league, adding more offense is not a priority for Arizona.

Arizona ranks fourth in the entire league with a 3.30 bullpen ERA, but a playoff team can never have too many quality veteran arms out in the ‘pen. Pat Neshek is an established veteran having the best season of his career. Over the past six years, the submariner has a 2.50 ERA in over 250 innings with close to a strikeout per inning.

Neshek has great command and has pitched in the playoffs four times. He is the one real trade chip the Philadelphia Phillies may be able to get a solid return for, but realistically, the asking price for a 36-year-old reliever in his walk year cannot be too high. The Diamondbacks do not have any glaring weaknesses, but they can make one of their strengths even better if they trade for Pat Neshek.
