Philadelphia Phillies: Conner Greene

The Phillies have mostly exhausted their options on the trade market when it comes to big trade chips. They do have Howie Kendrick and Pat Neshek left in their war chest, and will be able to find mid-level prospects for them via trade. The Toronto Blue Jays lineup as a potential trade partner for Kendrick due to their need for an upgrade at second base.

If the Phillies do their homework and look further down the ladder, they can find good value in a trade of Kendrick. Conner Greene was a high-school pick by the Jays in 2013 and took hiis time getting out of rookie ball. Greene was very raw coming out of high school, but has a live arm and a fastball that can touch 98. He also has a solid changeup and slider.

Greene is being used as a starter in the Jays system, but could also have an impact at the MLB level as a reliever. He has the type of velocity and hard slider that could profile better out of the bullpen if he can command it. Back in 2015, the Phillies were able to trade Jonathan Papelbon for Nick Pivetta who has some upside left in him.

Philadelphia is mostly done rebuilding and now has to allow all their pieces to gel at the MLB level. The 2017 trade deadline is one last shot at acquiring prospects who still have some room for growth. Greene fits that billing for the Phillies.
