Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez in Home Run Derby

New York Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez will participate in the 2017 MLB Home Run Derby.

Cue the executives at ESPN doing a dance of joy right now. The 2017 Home Run Derby on July 11 is going to be a fun watch. Giancarlo Stanton is in. Miguel Sano is in. Now, not one but two New York Yankees sluggers are in as well.

That’s right. Not only is first time All-Star Gary Sanchez going to do the derby, but Aaron Judge, the leading AL All-Star vote receiver, will be participating in it as well.

Last season, Sanchez hit 20 homers in just 51 games and finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting. He’s followed it up this season with a .289 average, 13 homers, 40 RBI and  a .904 OPS.

Judge was not successful in his cameo with the Yankees last season, but 2017 has been a whole different story.

Judge is second in the American League in average at .327 and leads the AL in WAR, OBP, slugging, OPS, total bases, homers with 27, RBI with 62 and walks. He even has his own section of seats in right field called the Judge’s Chambers.

It’s a great thing for baseball that we may have a chance to see Judge and Stanton in a possible final for this event. The way Judge has started this season, he has a chance to be the face of the game rather quickly, and it may even lead to some casual fans of the game getting more into baseball seeing Judge and Stanton hit the ball a long way.

This should be a great night for the game. Great job by Judge and Sanchez saying yes to this when they could have said no.
