Milwaukee Brewers

NL, Central

Who outside of Wisconsin would have thought that the Milwaukee Brewers would be leading the NL Central at the halfway point? Well, if you suspected a World Series hangover for the Chicago Cubs, then maybe, but the rest of the NL Central has been massively underwhelming.

The Brewers had quietly put together one of the better farm systems over the last few years and Milwaukee is now beginning to reap the benefits of the minor league harvest. Add in that skipper Craig Counsell is doing a fine job leading his hometown team and this Milwaukee team could very well end up playing in the NLCS.

Keep in mind that the Brewers would probably play the Washington Nationals in the NLDS, a baseball organization that has never won a postseason series since leaving Montreal. Overall, Milwaukee should be in contention for the NL Central crown unless Chicago or the St. Louis Cardinals catch fire in the second half.

Since the Brewers rarely make the postseason and have a talented farm system, don’t be surprised if they trade for a setup man before July 31. Robertson has thrived in that role before with the Yankees. Outside of young closer Corey Knebel, who has been brilliant, the Brewers have lacked consistency in their bullpen. There is nothing quite like blowing leads during the dog days to inevitably miss out on a postseason berth.
