MLB Trade Deadline 2017: 5 best spots for David Robertson
By John Buhler
It looks like the New York Yankees are back. They are finally starting to get some great play out of their youngsters like right fielder Aaron Judge, catcher Gary Sanchez and pitcher Luis Severino. While all three will represent the Bronx in the 2017 MLB All-Star Game down in Miami, New York is still very much jockeying for positioning in the tough AL East.
The Yankees will have to fend of the rival Tampa Bay Rays and the hated Boston Red Sox for a shot at winning the AL East crown. Given that the Yankees lost in the 2015 AL Wild Card Game to the Houston Astros, they’ll almost certainly not want any part of that play-in game if they can avoid it.
New York could catch fire in the dog days, but will need to amplify its bullpen to hold off the Rays, Red Sox or other contending teams in the Junior Circuit. Inquiring on a former man who looked good in pinstripes in Robertson only makes sense.
Robertson was Mariano Rivera’s setup man early in his big league career. He eventually replaced The Sandman after his retirement as the go-to guy for the Yankees in the ninth inning. Being that he’s held both roles in New York before, a return to the Big Apple could be on the horizon for Robertson before the MLB trade deadline.
