MLB Trade Deadline 2017: 5 best spots for David Robertson
By John Buhler
Easily the best landing spot for a reliever the caliber of Robertson would be the Washington Nationals. They have one of the best teams in the National League, but an absolutely horrendous bullpen. If they stand pat on the back-end, it’s essentially a guarantee that a leaky bullpen will inevitably capsize them in the NLDS.
Frankly, Washington should be one of the two teams that should meet in the NLCS. At the halfway point, the Nationals have one of the better records in the Senior Circuit. They’d likely draw the AL Central Champion, possibly the Milwaukee Brewers, in the NLDS.
Washington doesn’t have to beat whomever comes out of the NL West gauntlet in the NLCS to have a successful season. Progress is progress, but anything less than an NLCS berth would be embarrassing for this juggernaut baseball team.

Robertson can become the Nationals’ new closer or setup man down the stretch. Anything to help the Nationals’ horrendous bullpen would be worth it for the Washington brass. The bigger question is if the Nationals have the players in their farm system to get the White Sox to bite on a trade offer involving Robertson.
