Wimbledon 2017: Men’s results – First round
Taking a look at the men’s results from the entire first round of Wimbledon 2017 with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic having short outings on Day 2.
After Day 1 of the men’s tournament at Wimbledon 2017 saw a top-five seed go down in Stan Wawrinka, everyone was on alert for Day 2 as the first round came to its conclusion. And with guys like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in action, the opportunity for big upsets was certainly there in London.
However, the ultimate result from the No. 2 seed Djokovic and No. 3 seed Federer was actually just a short day on the court at Wimbledon. Both men were dominant early and then their opponents were forced to retire due to injury. That’s certainly an unfortunate turn of events for the upset-bidders, but an unavoidable part of the game.
Meanwhile, there weren’t any other truly big upsets. Only one player inside the top 20 was upset as No. 19 Feliciano Lopez was another forced to retire due to injury. Still, it was largely chalk throughout most of the first round at Wimbledon.

Wawrinka getting upset on Day 1 is the biggest upset of Wimbledon yet. However, you have to wonder if the short outings will have an effect on Djokovic and Federer moving forward. Either way, it appears that the second grand slam is still ripe for the taking.
