Wimbledon 2017: Women’s results – First round
A look at the women’s results from the first round of Wimbledon 2017 Days 1 and 2.
Wimbledon 2017 got underway on Monday and didn’t waste much time with a few upsets among seeded players. This was expected to be a wild grand slam, and it lived up to the bill right away. That didn’t subside on Day 2 on Tuesday, July 4 however. There were more upsets throughout, though many of the higher seeds also advanced.
The highest seed upset on Day 2 of Wimbledon 2017 on the women’s side of things was No. 16 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who went down in three sets to Arina Rodionova. Also in the top-30 going down was Kiki Bertens (23), Lauren Davis (28) and Daria Gavrilova (20). That’s a lot of early action, without question at Wimbledon.
However, the top overall seed in Angelique Kerber advanced in straight sets, and Caroline Wozniacki moved on as well. However, the No. 5 seed had a bit of trouble as she dropped the second set. She’s still alive, though, which is all it takes.

There have been decidedly more upsets on the women’s side of things at Wimbledon to this point. That’s to be expected, however, given how wide-open many consider this tournament without Serena Williams involved. Expect to see more of the same moving forward.
